Dodgers and Reds get into some rhubarb

Dodgers 17, Reds 6 in Los Angeles

May 25, 1979: Tom Seaver and Frank Pastore got rocked by the Dodgers.

Tom Seaver 2.0 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO, 2 HR

Frank Pastore 2.1 IP 9 H, 10 R, 10 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO, 5 HR

Combined 4.1 IP, 19 H, 17 R, 17 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO, 7 HR

Dodgers home runs:

B2 Dusty Baker hit a solo home run (Deep LF) off Tom Seaver

B2 Rick Sutcliffe hit a 2-run home run (Deep RF) off Tom Seaver. This was his first career home run. He ended his career with 4 home runs

B4 Steve Garvey a 3-run home run (LF-CF) off Frank Pastore

B4 Gary Thomasson a 2-run home run (Deep RF) off Frank Pastore

B4 Joe Ferguson a solo home run (Deep LF) off Frank Pastore

B6 Derrel Thomas a solo home run (CF-RF) off Frank Pastore

B6 Davey Lopes 3-run home run (LF-CF) off Frank Pastore

Grandma’s notes say,  “Some rhubarb after Lopes was walked in B8, Reds upset because Lopes was allowed to swing in B6, and Dodgers thought Tomlin was pitching inside too close when he was walked in B8. I’m ashamed of the caller Marty for his popping off about it. Even before the fight started (in 8 I). What player wouldn’t want to drive in runs? Even if their team was ahead? They all want a high RBI figure and home run too! Seaver’s ERA went from 3.89 to 5.31. Seaver went 2 I + 5 more men. He gave each one of the five a single. Lopes was the only one who didn’t get a hit off him (Seaver), two men got 2 (Baker & Thomasson)
